I’m not a professional developer but I think I know little about bitcoin atleast I can boldly say I know the basic functionality and it’s essentials which include, buying and selling and also holding and all of these doesn’t require you to be a professional developer of bitcoin. With this singular thought in your head, it will be very difficult for you to want to accept bitcoin and its functionalities and I will first advice you to picture bitcoin as a form of currency but the major difference should be that bitcoin is used digitally while the other is physically through fiat or barter.

Bitcoin isn't difficult to understand but very easy to understand, people that say they didn't understand Bitcoin are people that have already made up their minds that they don't want to understand Bitcoin because there's no point in not understanding what Bitcoin stands for. You can invest in Bitcoin without using Bitcoin as a currency hence there's nothing hard to understand in Bitcoin. Bitcoin is a digital currency and digital currency aren't like our regular currency because digital currency are only used online hence you'll have to know this before you can begin to do further research on what are the features of Bitcoin and any other things you want to learn.
