Even though Madrid did not play with all their first choice players (although those absent weren't that missed) I expected more goals from them. Assuming it had been Real sociedad that scored the first goal, will they level the score and rest? Madrid have formed the habit of relaxing after they get one goal and although they make attempts to get another one but don't really feel pressured to until their opponents score, that's when you'd see the fierceness they carry, first team players all in action or not.
 For me I'd say they were lucky to escape with this goal because sociedad came so close to leveling the scoreline with the little chances they got and now that Madrid was able to snatch this win away from home, watch and see how well they'd prepare for their visitors when they come back for the return leg.
