And most of the people I often hear explaining themselves are doing it in front of somebody who does not even care about them or could not care less about the thing they are explaining.  Even if they listen to the explanation, it is often useless because they end up either not believing or simply still not caring.  It is true, explaining yourself is most often a waste of time.
