It makes sense and indeed when talking about them there is certainly more talk about Barcelona and Real Madrid who come from the same league. It doesn't mean they are bad, but in terms of name they are still inferior and the 2 clubs I mentioned still have more appeal.
Maybe it would be different if the situation was that they were the only club representing La Liga. And actually if you compare, then the other clubs are the same. There are clubs that get less attention because more people are more interested in other teams that are considered more interesting to talk about.
Clubs from Spain and La Liga as representatives for the league have some successful clubs, and they are Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. We are talking more about Real Madrid and Barcelona because those clubs have more star players, richer than Atletico Madrid and they won more Champions League titles than Atletico Madrid.
In last two decades, Atletico Madrid played well in Champions League too but it's still worse than Real Madrid and Barcelona. This season is nearly similar and Atletico Madrid will have to face directly with Real Madrid in round of 16. Expectation on Atletico Madrid is less than Real Madrid but if they win and go next to quarter final phase, it will be time to recognize them as one of strongest candidates for the title.
