As you can see, they used the word "could," which means there’s no confirmed result yet on where the money will actually go. It’s like they’re implying that in any illegal activity, including this hack, the hackers will automatically launder the funds through a mixer to cash out, making it harder to track.

No wonder mixers have developed a bad reputation. Even though they’re meant for privacy, illegal transactions like these overshadow their legitimate uses.

Thoughts.....

It is wrong for the media to make that assumption and to give the public that perception before anything has happened, I agree with that...though it's not an unfair assumption to make generally.

Mixers are never going to be liked by LE or government, their only chance of surviving in the ecosystem is to be decentralized and non-custodial, so that those who need these tools for legitimate privacy purposes can use them without concern and without having to trust the reputation of the tool.
