A 200-level Chemical Engineering student just lost his life for partaking in a bet in an attempt to swim across a river. the condition is that if he is able to swim across the river, he gets about $0.3 which is equivalent to about 300 naira. as a typical Ijaw man, i understand how this works and usually, during swimming in the creek for fun, a lot of bets goes on ranging from bets on who can last longer under the water to who can swim across certain rivers even with zero safety measures in place.
So he ended his life just for $0.3 worth of bet? That is pathetic.

Although the money is not to be majorly considered in bets like this but the heroic feeling of doing that. Nevertheless, nothing life-threatening should be taken for levity, if they are doing that, it's important to ensure a high level of safety. Professionals can be all around the corner, especially the first responders who are good at swimming. Unfortunately, this kind of a bet is locally and daringly arranged, what a pity!

Maybe that time he really didn't think that it will end this way. Perhaps it was just game for him, and he thought that it's going to be easy and could have won the competition and the bet itself.

And this is what we call freak of accident, it just so happened that it was with a bet. And there could be just worst reasons for a person to die. But if we watch the news, there are more accidents that we can't really explain and that maybe it's his time is up in this world.
