A 200-level Chemical Engineering student just lost his life for partaking in a bet in an attempt to swim across a river. the condition is that if he is able to swim across the river, he gets about $0.3 which is equivalent to about 300 naira.
Just imagine how ludicrous the bet was. At least if someone must take a risk involving their life, let it be something worth mentioning in the first place. N300 (or even N3,000) is almost worthless in today's reality in Nigeria. Sadly, daredevil adventures won't let some people be reasonable. Yes, I know that youthful exuberance is predominantly manifested among people below the age of 30 but should someone sent to acquire an education to better their own life be senseless to that point? Though the deceased's age wasn't mentioned in the article, he would likely be in his 20s. That's the age the spirit of adventure tends to be the liveliest.

Well, while it may not necessarily be totally about the bet amount that made him take up the challenge but for a bragging right, he's gone. Now, he's dead and that bragging right is going to be 6 feet down with him and his loved ones exposed to mockery and heartache.
