I don't think anyone who's profitable gambling would hide it that they gamble. People see gambling as something bad because a lot of those they know don't usually make money from gambling. That's just it.

Someone that is receiving a salary of $1000 weekly has a reason he told his wife he is only earning $350 weekly. Or there are people that will not let their wife know how much they are earning.
I believe those who do such have trust issue or they think their wives will begin to bill them based on what they know they earn. Otherwise, I don't think it's a great idea to hide something as mundane as salary from one's spouse. The day the wify finds out that you've been dodging what your salary is, it's the day she begins to doubt every other things she had believed about you.
