bitcoin serves same purpose as a currency that is of the people, that is created by a man or group of people that are concerned about the welfare of the people and that is at the same time created to serve the needs of the people and cover for the lapses of the government. a society, individual or government that believes and preaches democracy should natural want to adapt bitcoin since it aligns with her vision.
Every currency be it traditional currency or digital currency are meant to serve people's welfare. There is element of rule of law in democracy which state that everything is within law and no one or entity is above the law. I think this is one more reason why bitcoin and democracy are going in a different way because bitcoin allow everyone to take respective decision and not by a central authority.

It's weird how people still believe democracy is government of the people by the people. A system of government where leadership is determined by what you have and how much you spent can not be considered as people's choice.
