Even the wealthy can't escape their craving for attention, and charity is their most "cost-effective" tool. After all, a donation leads to endless media exposure, and their public image skyrockets. On the other hand, it is precisely because of these celebrity stunts that the public’s focus is drawn to distant social issues.
Wealthy people have different reasons for giving to the poor but for whatever core intentions that they have for giving, they still need to be appreciated if they're not under any obligations to be charitable. The important thing is that they have made positive impacts into the lives of the ordinary people that needed help. I don't really care if a very rich person is being charitable so that they can be praised, let them receive the praise and let the poor to benefit from their kindness. Except in the cases where the rich who steals from the public funds that is meant to better the lives of the poor is giving them back peanuts from the multitude that is stolen, that is criminality.
