The President Bola Tinubu-led Nigerian government has ordered continuous salary deductions from federal workers to recover "excess payments" made in December 2024, blaming the situation on a system error.

The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) confirmed in a Friday statement, signed by its Director of Press and Public Relations, Bawa Mokwa, that deductions are ongoing and will continue until the overpaid sums are fully recovered.

This move has come as a shock to many civil servants because when the money was paid last December everyone thought it was exmass bonus which is usually what is done during festive periods, what do you think that the situation?

if it's correct that it was a mistake then the staff has to return to the government, there is no big deal her and no one should speak evil against the government.  Because you don't know it will affect the government fiscal budget for the year. So if they have resolved to use deduction policy on the staffs that's even fair enough for them than to collect a whole month salary. This one will not really touch the FG staff.  But next time the government should not make sure human error again. And we hope the deducted funds will be remitted national treasury account. Because this country is full of surprises
