Giving chances to young players is OK. But what happens to these youngsters in the long run? They are given a few matches, and then they get forgotten. The PCB doesn't have a system where young players are properly groomed. The team remains overdependent on senior players such as Mohammad Rizwan, Babar Azam, Saud Shakeel, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah. Name one young player, who emerged during the last 2-3 years, and has a permanent spot in the playing XI. There are none.
It is very confusing to see young players get chance to play but then they are not used again after few games. Pakistan Cricket Board PCB does not have good system to help young players improve and grow. It is okay that team relies a lot on older players like Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi but it is also important to train young players who can replace older ones when they retire or get hurt. It is concerning that no young player has come up in last 2 to 3 years and become regular part of team. PCB needs to think about future and spend time and money helping young players get better instead of just focusing on winning games now.
