I'd suggest you switch to another HW asap unless you're OK with Ledger doing stuff behind your back. Are you sure you can still trust their software? I haven't updated my Nano S (granted I no longer use it) but I can run it with Electrum just fine. Just wait until you're back in the US if you're not comfortable with it. I'm surprised you bring your HW when you're traveling, especially if it's your main wallet. I don't think that's a good idea.
