If my family finds out about my gambling addiction, it shouldn't be a big problem, but if people in my community find out about my gambling, they might look down on my family. So for now, to protect my family from being looked down upon in the eyes of society, it would be best to keep my gambling private from my family and my society. That's why I think those whose families and society don't know about gambling should keep it a secret from their families and society.
If because of your gambling your family is small in society's eyes or you are bad in everyone's eyes then I think there is no need to tell anyone about your gambling. Gambling is not considered legal in some regions and those who gamble are looked down upon, so you have to hide your gambling from others even if it looks good to others. Now the issue is how the family views your gambling. If your wife or your girlfriend is like you or thinks like you then she will support your activities but if she is of different opinion then she may not accept your gambling well. So I think there is no need to discuss gambling with your girlfriend or wife first, if you find that she is supportive of your issues then you can discuss these issues with your girlfriend or wife.
