I think the ups and downs of performance are nothing new in football, as all teams have the potential to experience decline and vice versa. Of course, there are many factors behind this. Leicester City even recorded a better performance than Nottingham Forest when they won the Premier League trophy in the 2015/2016 season. Everyone knows that at that time Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal, and even Tottenham had far better squad depth. Nottingham Forest is currently in their best performance, they have actually suffered enough after waiting 23 years to return to play in the Premier League. Last season, Nottingham Forest even almost got relegated again, they have fared better this season.
Of course it is true, but it is always interesting to discuss the favorite teams that have played badly throughout the season like Manchester City and some others. Nottingham do not have much fan base on the forums, but City, United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal certainly do. It is certainly not the best season for Pep Guardiola and his squad, but he can still be expected to do better in the coming seasons.
I do admit that Manchester City has been very disappointing this season. They cannot be expected to provide big profits like previous seasons, but a season like this is expected after several seasons of dominance. The Premier League will not be as good if there is only one team that dominates the title for more than 4 seasons in a row, so Manchester City is basically set up to fail.
