The position of a moderator is a very sensitive one, and you don't have many people who are qualified for this job.
Some who are qualified don't want the job.
I agree fully on that , you have to be very neutral on some things.
If there ever come a time when a moderator don't visit this place again and there is need to replace such a moderator that has gone offline for too long, the administrator will change such person if he sees someone that can fill the gap and do the job very well.
Thats the way it should be , but i can tell you we got exactly that case years ago in the German Local Board and was a long time without any Moderator.
At this time it was very active there and they only way we got a new Moderator was to open a Topic in Meta about the issue.

Its just an simple answer for become a Moderator !
You have to be chosen by theymos and trustworthy to him.
It also dosnt matter how much Reports or good Reports you have in the end.
By the way the Moderators and also Global Mods are doing a very nice and good Job in my opinion.
I would say we need a few more patrollers on the Forum and not Moderators.
