West Ham midfielder, who denies wrongdoing, could face life ban if found guilty in English football’s biggest corruption case in decades

Lucas Paquetá faces ‘biggest game of life’ as spot-fixing trial gets under way

For those familiar with soccer and gambling it's already a well known case which is going on for a long time. Finally it's coming to a conclusion, and if a 'life ban' from professional soccer is really going to happen, many other players will think twice before engaging in cheating from now on, because that means a life sentence.

Please discuss if you think this punishment is too harsh, or if it's appropriate, due to the gravity of the situation.

Also, what is the impact of this case over gambling industry?

I have heard about this case some time ago, but I didn't hear anything about it as I thought that it had been resolved long ago. Paqueta is not a baby when it comes to professional football. He has represented the mighty Brazil national team, and also plays in the current most competitive league in football, so I expect him to have known better.

imo, the life ban seems a bit harsh, but it is what it is.
Before saying anything further, is life ban actually the punishment for match fixing?. Well, I will like to see that part of the FIFA rule that states so.

Like I was saying, it is what it is. He broke the rules, so he must be ready to face whatever consequences. I would have appreciated FIFA if they actually reduce the punishment to just a few months ban, but there might be a debate for others to get similar punishment if they eventually break the same rule. Like I said, life ban is too harsh, but it is FIFA's decision to make the call.
