I really think that today most of the people just hoard Bitcoin with the hope to get a gain. Investment is the main driving force behind any cryptocurrency right now. But that doesn't exclude that, in the future, we will se some more international transactions occurring in digital currency. It is usually cheaper and faster than any traditional SWIFT wire transfer.
It could happen but I think it's more likely they'll pick one of the altcoins or it will be stablecoin, because they clearly outperform bitcoin in terms of fees as well as transaction speed. Not to mention, it makes it easier for governments and law enforcement agencies to control and manage us. I doubt they will legalize or allow people to use bitcoin as an alternative payment method because that would make it difficult for them to control and manage. We should accept the fact that due to the decentralized nature of bitcoin, it will be difficult for governments to legalize it as a payment method.
