I really think that today most of the people just hoard Bitcoin with the hope to get a gain. Investment is the main driving force behind any cryptocurrency right now. But that doesn't exclude that, in the future, we will se some more international transactions occurring in digital currency. It is usually cheaper and faster than any traditional SWIFT wire transfer.
Bitcoin was primarily created for the purpose of serving as a digital currency but the fact that many now see it as an investment platform and a store of value shouldn't make anyone become bored about people's choice. If the OP is really bored like he suggested, then it'll not be bad to lead by example by using Bitcoin in the other ways he thinks are been ignored. You can't decide how people should use their digital assets because you aren't the one that helped them acquire the assets. I think we have more pressing issues to discuss than projecting the best ways for people to use their Bitcoins.
