My father gambles but he always remind me that gambling isn't for kids during that time, I grew up without having interest on gambling. I gamble but casual only and just do this for fun. I'm not like other people who gambles a lot and believes that there will be consistent profit on gambling. I'm lucky enough that I've grew in that way, I learned at the beginning and become a responsible adult in gambling.

It's kinda effective to teach someone about gambling, explaining the risk and the consequences of gambling. Don't let other people become addicted to it because their mindset is all about money and profit.
Almost all parents do not want their children to be addicted to gambling. The father wants his son to be more successful than himself in his glory days, they don't want their son to be worse than their bad. I was also always reminded not to gamble because my parents did not support gambling, but for the same reason I also gambled. Gambling is just for fun to me, nothing more than that even if I lose some money.

I don't know if there are parents who support their children gambling when they turn 18, but if there are, then maybe it happens in countries where gambling is legal. My country does not legalize gambling, gamblers are often considered bad by society, but gambling is still everywhere. We gamble in secret, not in public and known to everyone.
