I was organizing some old files the other day, photos, random PDFs, a few videos and realized I had no idea where half of them were. Google Drive, some random hard drive, maybe iCloud? No clue. Everything’s so scattered.
That kinda got me thinking about how messy data storage is in general. Not just for regular people, but even apps and platforms. We’re all just tossing stuff into black boxes and hoping they don’t break.
Then I came across this project called Walrus that’s trying to do decentralized storage differently. Not in a loud, flashy way but it’s more about making storage usable in real time, like for stuff people actually interact with. PDFs, videos, whatever. And making it programmable, like you can build around it.
I’m not saying it’s the “future of storage” or any of that, but the idea of having access to your stuff instantly, reliably, even if parts of the system go down, felt kinda relevant after digging through five folders just to find one doc.
Anyway, just sharing. Been thinking more about where all our stuff actually lives online.
