Why should be there some small award be arranged for Users that when they spam the whole Forum full just for getting the most Posts?
On top of that for the Most Merit giver there would be always the Merit souces that will getting that.
In my opinion its a bad idea for doing that , it would be only create more spam as we have right now.

Golden thought. It is enough to hold such an event once, so the next day we will see tons of new uninteresting topics and those who want to be champions. Likewise, the statistics of those who received merits or gave are also uninteresting, since all this has already been implemented. I think those who open up new and interesting topics for discussion do it just like that because they feel that the issue is necessary for discussion. Anything that is done for prizes with some benefit will not look sincere; thus, such topics will always smell of merit hunting.
