Where did I hear similar reasoning 90 years ago?
Russian fascist dictatorship has been literally jailing and killing their opponents, but it's France taking measures against Russian hybrid warfare that goes too far in your opinion?

I am sure that you are familiar with Valery Gerasimov doctrine, and how they are doing it, but France should act like everything is ok?

Sometimes there are innocent and less innocent casualties in wars. Like i am certain that there are many decent Russians that are innocent casualties. Those who been jailed for speaking against their dictator, or fled the country for example. War, or cold war isn't supposed to be fun and sophisticated event where people would act calmly and rationally against the enemy. Fighting back sometimes means dealing with extreme circumstances, and democracy hasn't been more under attack for a long time. And frankly, France has been almost losing it, like US. That means we need extreme measures to protect it.

We can argue how many rules we can bend by justifying it with a cold war, but we are fighting against an opponent that doesn't have rules, so we need to adapt.
