Wasted 2 titles in the competition and currently Leverkusen only hope in the bundesliga. 6 point gap from Munich, looks very close and seems to be able to be caught up. But the problem is, Alonso able to finish this season with a full victory until the end of the season?
There was no way Leverkusen would have replicated their last season success this season. It was practically impossible for them to achieve what they did back then this season. Well in the champions league, nobody expected them to get to the final. They were eliminated at the quarter finals round by Bayern Munich which has been a superior side to them this season. I will say they really had a good run in the champions league. As far as the league is concerned I will say they are still contenders. Because the six points gap is not very big, and if they maintain consistency till the end of the season something miraculous can still happen.
It's very unfortunate that they exited the cup in the manner they did.
