Milan must aim to finish at least fourth in the standings to avoid making this season a failure. Finishing seventh, sixth or fifth would change little. Last night they gave a show of strength not seen in a long time, let's just hope it's not just a flash in the pan. I also want to remind you that Milan reaching the final of the Italian cup and winning the cup would qualify for the next Europa League even if they finish the championship in ninth position
Between wanting, then trying to get it and actually getting it are big differences. Now with 32 matches, playing one more match than other competitors for a fourth position, AC Milan have 51 points, and Bologna have 57 points (6 points more than AC Milan) and below Bologna, there are some clubs like Juventus, Lazio, AS Roma and Fiorentina. You can count and see that there are 5 clubs for AC Milan to beat and get the fourth position, and after this week, Serie A will have only 6 more match days.
AC Milan is still four points behind Lazio who is currently in sixth place in the standings, but in terms of catching up on those four points with AC Milan's current condition, it is certainly not easy because there are many other teams that are also obstacles for AC Milan to be in the top six or top five positions in the rest of this season. So I also think that Milan will not enter any competition other than Serie A next season because that seems much more logical for Milan unless there are three teams above them who experience consecutive defeats and Milan wins consecutively in the rest of this season.
Top six is possible for AC Milan but top four can be out of their reach when the league is coming to very last match days. Time is no longer on AC Milan side and we also know that AC Milan don't have good consistent performances in this season. With their inconsistency, it's hard to beat five above clubs and take over a fourth position.
