It actually make since especially that Malone has championship experience and provably that he can help Reddick to do good decision to help Lakers to win. Lakers will provably have a system upgrade if they can successfully get him on their team.
I don't think Suns is ready to get rid with Budenholzer since I think they are thinking about rebuilding their team if Durant leave next season. But I really think that Spurs should get Malone since for sure that he could assist well this young team and also Knicks seems to be interested to get him so I guess he can also bring good great changes for that team. For sure Nuggets management would regret their decision to fire their champion coach.
It of course does make sense for Lakers, nobody questions that part. The part people doubt is the fact that Mike Malone is a coach that won the ring, so why would he accept to go work under JJ Reddick on his rookie year of being a head coach? Makes no sense for Mike Malone to have such a drastic drop at the moment, he can be hired as a head coach by some other team, so why would he accept the lakers job?
If it was him being hired as a head coach then yeah that would be great, but we all know JJ Reddick is their head coach at the moment and they have done better than expected so far, and with the famous Luka Doncic trade, they are looking even more lethal too. So things are not ready for Mike Malone to go there yet, not for him at least.
