There are a lot of Lakers rumors swirling around. I even read one about Jokic potentially being traded to the team, which seems far-fetched. Now they're reportedly considering hiring this recently fired coach. While I think he could be a good assistant, I believe Michael Malone deserves another head coaching opportunity. Most likely, he'll end up with a struggling team that will have a coaching vacancy soon.
I agree, he is the coach with NBA ring and done so much so far, an assistant job doesn't make sense for him, he should be going to a team that could win something, or at least be head coach in some team. Memphis must be in talks, they got an interim coach, and Mike Malone could be a great replacement there.
Most teams will fire coaches, every season that happens, so there will eventually be a team getting him as head coach. The only logical argument for him to be an assistant coach at the moment would be just a short term arrangement for until the end of the season, like a month or two whatever it is, that would be only one and why would any team want him for that short span of time and why would he accept anyways.
It's better still though if we will be involved in any teams for now, even a assistant coach. Again, those are great coaches, Jenkins and Malone, it's that the circumstances did not favor them. Who knows, maybe next season, some bad teams will need to overhaul and change coach as well.
So there's still a career for this two for sure, if they wanted to be an assistant coach then so be it. But if by chance they are being hired next year for sure this teams will have a great coach. Mike Brown was also fired this year by the Kings, and they are under a assistant coach. There is this big possibility that either of the two might be hired by the Kings, just a speculation.
