The hegemony of the US dollar has taken over many countries. My country, like yours, is quite heavily dependent on the States. An unpleasant situation? Yes, it is. But at this stage it is very difficult to change the vector of direction and become a completely independent country. Any state needs new technologies, and they are purchased from others. The time of global markets. This has been going on for many centuries and it is rather stupid to isolate yourself from the rest of the world.
To become a self-sufficient country, which is impossible in the current world, you have to go a very long way and, in addition, have geniuses in many areas in high positions. This is an impossible task.
The reason why political and economic happenings in the US have a ripple effect on the global economy is because that nation has the biggest economy, and its currency is dominant in intentional trade. Moat, if the global payment intermediaries are controlled by the US, and its high population, makes it a large market.
Shifting dependence from the US and seeking alternative trading partners will take some time. No country can be self sustaining but regions can. The EU have all it takes to be independent of the US economy but they have failed to achieve that since they see the US as a trustworthy ally. It is now time for continents and regions to cooperate economically, and devise means to boycott the US market.
