Make sure you stick with original BTC Wallet for android like Electrum or others, also download them from the official website instead of going to playstore and type in the name in the search bar, you could end up with the wrong one.
IMHO, downloading from the playstore itself a safe option but what you need to make sure is that the right app, which you can find out easily by looking at the number of downloads and the developer name on it.
BTW, Electrum Android has a fee-adjustable option like ETA, From mempool and static for years, then why did you download another wallet?
