I struggle to understand why some people paint President Trump as the villain in this tariff war. Let’s not forget that China has long banned or restricted many U.S. products and services. Trump’s tariffs are a response to China’s unfair trade practices

He turned tariffs on and off and on and off and on and off.

okay USA Russia Norway Greenland and Canada

So here is a fuck China plan :

1)Make friends with Russia
2)Grab Greenland
3)Melt the Icecaps
4)Retake the Panama Canal (USA lost it due to the traitor Jimmy Carter)

That is a hard fuckover to China.

Why does Trump do these crazy tariffs on and off and on and off.

Because he does not want the world to point out the 4 step plan I just shown to you.

What do you think?

bettyonline, you are wrong on that by miles; renegotiating tariffs with China WHILE retooling America (so that we could actually manufacture products) would have been something to think about if he was acting in good faith.
On the aside of all that: 'actually' ramping up manufacturing just about anywhere in the U.S. isn't going to be smooth. Wages and environmental protections will be a hinderance.

On the other hand maybe not? Based on some of the observations from Philipma:
Over the last couple of decades we have been becoming more aware (aka "woke") of the exploits in the Capitalist System and the world has been trying to change course. Dialing it back on extracting resources, polluting the water and air or impinging on the sovereignty of nations for want or gain.

Trump wants all of those constraints removed out of 'his' way not the people of America but for the corporation of America, to profit of the 1%.
Money is so deeply entrenched in politics that they are saying all the things out loud that used to be hushed and considered corrupt.

He might be the best thing that has happened if it finally makes us figure out how to get capitalism to work for humanity without exploitation. It seems he is going a little too far too fast and picking fights within "the establishment" ---Harvard for one.

If not: he already has a privatized prison system for labor as a nice foundation, a country who can't come together (or even agree on fundamental reality ;-))
All the things he wants to do are clear. The people who will benefit will be the same ones who always do and it isn't us plebs or the 1% wannabees.

I finally understand one of my favorite comedians George Carlin "There's a Club and We Ain't In it".
