Well if they can produce their own product then its good to them, but I believe they are lacking of resources and China have almost all of that. This is why in long term US might be in big trouble especially that there's huge chance for China to change their trade route while US consumer will continue to get a problem with high prices of products they buy.

Producing everything on their own won't be possible there because the US average wage is much higher than in other countries. It costs only $1 to produce a t-shirt in China or even less than that, but if the USA wants to produce a t-shirt and sell it, it won't be able to do so for $10 or less. They import the products because they don't have time for cheap products.

They focus on high tech instead and make billions of dollars. Countries always have to rely on each other, and only then will the world be a good place to live. These trading wars and nuclear wars are not good for the Earth.
