I and the privacy-minded bitcoin community will in fact wait and see how the issue develops - it would be great if mixers could eventually be brought back. But we never know when that time will come - whether the issue will actually be realized or whether it will just be outdated.
To be Honest, I believe the future of True mixers are bleak even if miraculously Trump chooses to give a thumbs up.
Government and citizens having privacy and anonymity doesn't mix.
Not even in politics, we have seen historically that anything a man can't control they tend to brand it bad
Maybe they might finally try using mixer to launder money themselves but that won't happen
Because laundering funds through the traditional route is safer.

Mixing funds through the traditional route is safer? Not really and is the reason theymos is likely against even a remote connection with them. Traditional money laundering sources like casinos and eventually banks, all have a paper trail with named individuals tied to accounts. Such data is often handed over by these companies and can be analysed by regulators. If suspicious activity is found they know who is connected to the accounts. Even cash businesses that are pumped will have ball park expected revenue and if it's reporting much higher amounts an investigation will identify a problem.

Crypto mixers are actually much more effective if they are able to properly hide inputs versus outputs. Which is why they are a prime target for financial regulators and the owners have repeatedly been targeted for criminal prosecution
