In a way that is not so surprising since Doohan has been racing so poorly but with the introduction of a new driver coming in so abruptly it certainly is in that respect.
Has Colapinto been in a race so far this year? From what I recall he was designated as a backup driver.
No, he didnt race this year, he is as you said a reserve driver. But it was a open secret that if Doohan doesnt make a good performance in the first races he is gonna be sumonned as a main driver and Doohan droped.

He was either last or near that to not finishing a race. Remember watching him before joining an F1 team in Drive to survive.
For a new driver like that he was given the chance and didn't perform since there are quite a few rookies available this season then might as well give it to Colapinto to see what he can do.
If the rumors are true about Cadillac F1 Team , they will reveal their F1 Team Livery and the special guest who will announce this might be Sergio Perez and if this is true ...does it mean Perez will be their future driver as well ? because I don't see them signing 2 rookies for their team and signing a veteran like Perez who will bring them exposure might be the best choice.

I think it won't be a bad solution, next year 36, so looking at Lewis, Nico or Fernando, it's not that bad yet, we need someone experienced and after what others at RedBull are showing, he gained some sympathy from me.
Perez at Cadilliac was always in the cards. Because even though many thought he was done with F1 racing when they announced he was being replaced at Red Bull he still had some more years left in him.
It was just where he would end up was the major question. And now we have confirmation of where that will be.

There should be as the practice sessions begin tomorrow. But I guess the teams just haven't released them publically yet.
