That was mandatory, good thing they could hold onto that goal for the full 90minutes of the game. I can't imagine that this is Pep Guardiola's worst season and he's still and will be able to finish comfortably in the top four. Well, he has never missed out on Champions League qualification so I don't that happening. They have improved and unbeaten in the last 7-9 games already.
Pep Guardiola has never failed to get Man City to play in the Champions League so it is not surprising that in the end they succeeded even though they had experienced setbacks in some previous matches. The victory over Wolves was quite important but they need to get one or two more wins to guarantee their position to qualify for the Champions League because if they fail, maybe some teams behind them will catch up.
There are still three games left for this season so Man City must try to win the remaining games and I don't think it will be difficult because Man City's performance has improved a lot compared to the bad conditions they experienced before.
