You could get your funds frozen and the exchange may ask you to undergo identity verification. You have the right to say no and demand your money to be returned to you. Depending on the case, they may or may not do that until you submit the documents they asked for. Only them and the third party they use will determine how "dirty" your crypto is and if you will get a refund or if the coins will be in their custody until you comply. That's not KYC-free, it's not non-custodial and it's not decentralized.
