last week, the renowned cambridge centre for alternative finance (CCAF) published its most comprehensive report on Bitcoin mining to date, comprising 150 pages. the study is based on primary data from 49 mining companies from 16 different countries, which together represent around half of the global Bitcoin hashrate. although the sample is us-heavy, it is an important advance in methodology compared to previous models, which were based on imprecise estimates only.
