Have you ever tried keeping a record to compare the two? And what did you find, which one’s actually more profitable?

It’s easier to pick which team will win, so most people go for the moneyline. But the odds can kill your profit, since the favorites usually have really low payouts. So then you start thinking about betting on the point spread, where the payout is more balanced.

But are we really doing that kind of comparison? Or are we just betting based on gut feeling following our instincts without even knowing if we’re actually winning in the long run?

It's up to the teams that are playing, there are games that the odds per ML is very close, like 1.79 for the underdog and 1.86  for the favorite. So with that, it's better to just go on ML and not look for the handicap as the returns is already very attractive.

But if the odds are like 1.1x for the favorite and then 2.x or higher for the underdog, it's much better to look at the handicap to get a better odds for you. I don't think that we should be betting on gut feelings, I mean if you have followed that sports then you know why the team is the favorite and if they can go and cover the spread. Or why the team is the underdog and maybe they can pull an upset or maybe a bet on the + side on them.
