Yep, whales can influence price short-term by manipulating supply and demand—think spoofing, big orders, and media timing. Long-term, the market balances out, but they definitely play smart.
Ofcourse the can manipulate the market but they don't have full control of the market, the government don't also that's why most didn't welcome it during the early days, the creator Satoshi left the project to be controlled through demand and supply by everyday users and that's why he went anonymous and made it decentralized.
Whales know the value of Bitcoin, they need more of it and the only way is to manipulate the market for a temporary period so it would drop and they'll get the opportunity to own more, that's why when the price drop, they don't panic, you won't see any whale complain but buying more and more to their satisfaction.
