Mo Salah and Victor Osimhen have been in top form, but if PSG wins the UEFA Champions League, Achraf Hakimi might end up becoming the African footballer of the year. The right-back has contributed in no small measure to the success of the French outfit.
He narrowly missed it last year to Ademola Lookman. But this time, the Moroccans have won almost all competitions this year (if they beat Inter Milan). Winning the Champions League would make him get more votes since it is a prestigious competition. He has been voted as the best African player in France winning the Marc-Vivien Foé Prize. This award might also increase his chances of winning the African best award.
Hakimi also deserves the award, I will not say it is any form of robbery to Victor Osimhen because the Champions league is a more relevant competition than the Turkish league. Other players also in Africa also need to know that they would have an opportunity to win the award too if they put in their best performance for their club.
The award is not for only a set of persons.
I like your statement "
If" they beat Milan, then Hakimi would be very much qualified to be the next African footballer of the year, cause of his good contribution to his team Paris Saint-Germain in both the Champions League and French Ligue 1 moreover he's already won the Ligue 1 so winning the Champions league would make him the best candidate for the award.
Failure for his team to win the Champions league, then Mo Salah would be the favourites candidate followed by Hakimi or Osimhen, I believe they might even consider him as runner up before Osimhen due to how relevant his league is compared to the Turkish league, Osimhen has been spectacular this year if only he was playing a bigger team in one of the top leagues.
