As if Manchester City struggling to stay at the top of the league this season wasn’t bad enough, they lost the only hopes of winning something this season despite the much struggles this season. I sure hope they have learnt their weaknesses and shortcomings this season and will work to improve in the summer ahead of the coming season.
As far as I'm concerned, Man City in recent times have being the most decorated club and for the fact that they've failed to win the EPL this season doesn't mean we have to forget how consistent they've being.
All good things must come to an end and for me, I will not say it's exactly over for Man City in terms of playing in European competition next season because they can redeem themselves tomorrow when they play Bournemouth and on the last day. We know from experience that Man City can come from difficult times to get through to where they want so I will not completely write them off yet.
Yeah if you look at it thoroughly, Man City has not been entirely poor this season, it’s just that they’ve set the standards so high that even a slight drop in form is a huge gap. If they win their next game tomorrow they’ll be just 3 points below Arsenal. This season they faced challenges and setbacks but they’re getting back in form, the fact they didn’t win anything isn’t an issue, most great teams often go a season without nothing, even Madrid this season is almost trophyless if not for the Super Copa.
Man City are known for doing well at the last minute, the remaining two games I’m sure it’s gonna be a win for them.
Setting the standards high is one thing, playing a poor season is another. It's correct if you say that was not entirely poor, but it was pretty poor if they want to maintain the label as a top club in the Premier League. 65 points thanks to the recent winning streak, more than one goal conceded per game on average, Champions League qualification at risk, 91 points last season, Haaland in the team, Guardiola the coach.
If someone tells you that they may not finish top five, I am not sure what the right assessment would be, but I think not only by their own standard, but by any standard that top teams are subject to, this was a poor season. FA Cup final lost. I could go on.
