It's not like we couldn't prove ownership of the account — the Bitcointalk forum staff simply never replied to our email.
Just a guess:
Maybe, you didn't get any response from the recovery team, because you didn't send the email from the email address used for registering that bitcointalk account.
We are a company and use our official domain email, which ends in @bspin.com.
I highly doubt the recovery team consider that as a proof of ownership over the account.
How can you prove that the email is sent from the exact person who created the bitcointalk account?
Assume that a company has an account here in bitcointalk and the recovery team accept any email sent from the their website domain as a proof of ownership.
What if each of employees of the company has an email address with the website domain? Then all employees can recover the account.
