I'm not sure that quitting gambling is the best way.
We will not talk about that particular case when a person came to gambling and immediately won a lot of money. After which he left gambling forever, because such lucky people are literally 1 in 1,000.
I am sure that if someone has strong self-control, then he can periodically gamble for small amounts and thus relieve stress and lift his spirits. It is still better than alcohol, and there is a chance to win even more money.
Or maybe 1 in 10000. It's difficult to quit after winning a big multiplier. Once you taste that sweet victory, you will be drooling for more. I experienced it many times, and I still play slots because I want to achieve it one more time. But I think it will be my last time if ever I get it again. The stress given by a losing streak is not easy to handle. There will be a point when one should just walk away from playing slots because it's not entertaining anymore, but more like a stressful type of game.
Sometimes before you can see such luck again, if you have been consistently gambling, you must lost so much that will almost equal or be higher that the huge win you are going to get. This is the experience that I have seen some gamblers talked about, that they lost so much before winning big and that how it happen. It's very rare for someone to win huge amount consistently, and like you said, huge win is like a force of attraction that always make the gambler wants to keep trying luck so that they can win huge again, some gamblers realize that it's impossible but some don't and they end up giving back to the casino the money they have won.
