However, Nottingham has shown tremendous improvement this season compared to the previous two seasons. Previously, they were a team that was almost relegated every season, but this season they showed a good performance. Unfortunately, what they showed at the beginning of the season could not be consistent until the end of the season. And they have to accept the results. Many speculated at the beginning that they could qualify for the top 4 standings, unfortunately the final results of this season were not like that. They have to do better next season. Hopefully, they can still play well.
Nottingham slightly missed out on the Europa League because of Tothenham's win of the Europa title and the loss against Chelsea. Last season they escaped relegation finishing in the seventeenth position. But they improved this season and they finished the league in seventh place. Coach Nuno Espírito Santo used relatively average players to put up a good display this season. I will not be surprised that some top clubs will be seeking to get his services for next season. If the management of the club would invest in players, the Forest might do better next season.
But considering how well they were doing in the middle of the season, this result is not what they were hoping for. It was all about the last third when they lost games they shouldn't have lost. Overall it is still impressive that they played good enough to beat top teams and not to forget, they were the first team to beat Liverpool at Anfield Road. That was a big deal given how dominant Liverpool was all the time.
The thing is that teams like Nottingham need this last step of success as it also gives them additional money to find their place in the upper third of the table over a longer period of time. Now I fear they won't finish as good again as this season.
For European standards they still have good money, but for EPL standards missing the Europa League or CL hurts them financially and it also hurts when they target great players who would then have a chance to play internationally.
