It's so unfortunate that nowadays people no longer settle common issues amicably without seeing the Law court as their plan "B" .
Whereas during the days of our four father's, some issues were settled traditionally even without going to court, and by the end of it all positive results were achieve.
It's quite sad.
The government of our fore fathers is not the government of today. In the days of our forefathers, speaking as an African, there were active dieties who does not support crime and they deal with criminals. So, justice was fast served at that time. But with the modern government system, no one days. You can kill and just go go live forever in the prison or become free if you have a good lawyer. Because of this, people prefer where they can easily manipulate.
Other alternative dispute resolution systems are the church or mosque, the traditional rulers but it seems the world is decading and they're losing their values.
