The initial download can be painful, but the reward is worth it. The first time I downloaded the Monero blockchain I was running under Starlink with about 18MB, which isn't bad but far from fast by today's standards. I don't recall it causing much heartburn in terms of lagging other tasks. At the time I was working from home and uploading and downloading somewhat large CAD files, spreadsheets, work related photos and videos... I don't remember exactly how long it took, but I do recall it was a significant amount of time, like maybe two weeks.
Totally get it! I was also been there) Running your own Monero node can be rewarding, but bandwidth issues can make the setup process really frustrating. Once you sorted out the bandwidth and got Feather wallet connected, though, it works smoothly.
To be honest, since you both refer to the IBD, which was painful indeed, I must say that I wasn't referring to the IBD. My monero node was causing bandwidth issues when it was functioning at a normal node state. It needed some configuration to overcome the issue. But yeah, once done, it was rewarding of course.
