If we don’t take time to properly analyze the matchup, we’ll just assume the favorites will win easily.

This is one of the main reasons why many of us fail in sports betting as we don’t look for real value. We just see that a team is the heavy favorite and put our money on it. It’s a mindset that leads to losses. We think that just because we know the game, we already have the edge. But we overlook how the odds and the market are designed to balance the action.

So if you’re always betting on favorites without digging deeper, we all know how that usually ends.
In my opinion you will in any case be betting on the favorite or at least most players do exactly that. To bet on an underdog you either need to have some insider information or know that the favorite has serious problems maybe with injured players or with motivation for this match. But in such a case the bookmaker will also adjust the odds because keeping low odds just because it is a favorite does not happen. And betting on the favorite is always easier because we expect them to win and most of the time that is what happens.
