Chelsea is pleased to confirm the signing of Dario Essugo from Sporting CP.The midfielder, who spent last season on loan in La Liga with Las Palmas and is a Portugal Under-21 international, has signed a contract until 2033.
Essugo began his career in Sporting's academy and became the youngest-ever player to feature for the club when he made his senior debut aged 16 years and six days against Vitoria de Guimaraes in March 2021. Later that year, he broke Luis Figo’s record as the youngest starter for Sporting, aged 16 years, 11 months and 17 days.
Having gained further experience with Sporting B and featuring on 23 occasions for the club’s first team, Essugo spent the second half of the 2023/24 campaign on loan at Primeira Liga side Chaves, for whom he made 14 appearances. Two further outings for Sporting followed at the start of the 2024/25 season before Essugo completed a loan move to Las Palmas. The 20-year-old established himself as a regular for the Spanish side, making 27 appearances and scoring one goal for Los Amarillos across all competitions. On the international stage, Essugo has featured for Portugal at various age groups. His most recent caps have come with the Under-21s, with his last appearance coming during the March international break.

If this is true, I think Chelsea's decision is absolutely right. Because recruiting young players like Essugo can make Chelsea even better and become a pretty good long-term investment. Because currently Chelsea doesn't have many players under the age of 20, so recruiting some players is definitely a must for Chelsea right now. Moreover, if Chelsea wants to continue to be a team that is truly reckoned with in the English league or in the world, it is clear that Chelsea needs to continue to upgrade its players so that they can remain consistent with their good performance. Talking about Essugo, he seems to be a young player who has quite good talent. So if he is honed well at Chelsea, he can definitely become a player who can be relied on. That is why Chelsea currently only needs to fix all existing aspects, so that the players can train well.
In addition, Chelsea has now managed to get a ticket to the Champions League, I think this must be utilized well by Chelsea to prove to the world that Chelsea is a team that still needs to be reckoned with. Because right now I think Chelsea is less considered by the teams that often compete in the Champions League and that's why Chelsea has to prove itself again right now.

And in a few weeks Chelsea will compete again in the World Cup between clubs, I think this match should never be missed either, because of course this match will be very exciting to watch. And in their first match Chelsea will face Leon, a team from the Mexican league.
