So the things is How does the merit sources pick posts for merits? Do they have bots that specifically identifies those posts like filtering a thread to find worth quality post to merit? Or just hovering around threads in their specified board they are in charge off and then merits randomly according to their own decisions?

I use to know of a merit source that do have a programmed system that gives out merit to a post he already merited for that month as the month is coming to expiration and the Smerit will rollover, he does that to exhaust his Smerit before new one is refilled. This is all I know about any systemic means of meriting because I don’t even think post are merited initially by him using any systemic means but just hovering around to filter bad posts and meriting good posts that are worthy of being merited.

I am curious because I see posts that is more qualified for merits but ignored while lower quality posts at being merited or could it also mean there is favouritism in there?

In as much as there are still many quality posts out there that don’t get merit as often as they should, it is not an easy task to go through the forum looking for quality posts to merit without missing so many of them. The forum is large with many users posting every seconds, so even in their own jurisdictions, they can still miss out on good posts and this is not their fault because they’re human also and can’t skim through the board they’re assigned to as fast as a programmed machine could. It is not about favoritism, everyome cannot be 100% efficient but can try their best to.
