I have heard quite a lot of jackpot winning stories not sure I have heard a great number of those winners say it was as a result of their accurate prediction skills emanating from their strategies that got them such win. It's mostly a tale of luck and chances. We don't determine when to win, it randomly happens and in few cases we could be lucky to get a streaks of wins at a session yet I can't base that on accuracy of prediction effect because it was never determined as at the time of betting.
The stories always come after several years of trying with all the possible strategies I can use to secure the win. I still am unable to figure it out, but this time I can't tell how it happened. It's just a lucky day for me, which led to this win. They are all always unaware of when their jackpot winning comes. Sometimes it comes when they really have not spent so much time gambling, while in most cases it's after several years of hard work, which turns out unproductive, until the bet placed with fewer chances of winning turns out to give them the win.
Not knowing when your next win could happen is what makes gambling intriguing. That's where the randomness applies, otherwise people would have dive in with all they have when they know it's time for them to have that win. Like in the OP's analogy of the monkey for example, even those monkeys that were in luck of having streaks of winnings never knew they would be in luck to enjoy such because basically their wins can't be just attributed to their strategies.
