Maybe the people who are actually working for themselves are those who do not need people or to satisfy any customer to make profit, example like the traders who do not need to lure customers to their shop like business owners or hotel owners, or taxi owner that need to follow instructions from their clients etc.
No matter which sector you work in, you need others to exist to make profit and that's why you always depend on the market. Even a trader depends on the market sentiment and has to act accordingly to make money. As far as satisfying customers goes, I guess every service provider has to do it.

For me, working for yourself means that whatever you earn is yours and you are your own boss. You decide when to work and when you want to take a day off. Basically freedom of work is a more accurate way of saying it.

I believe, he is referring to working alone (i.e. online/remotely) without face-to-face encounter with other people. Because in today's set-up, you can really earn income via online transactions and you don't need to deal with other people.
And I would be that preferring this kind of set-up. This is indeed possible but there are people who are close minded about these probabilities. We do know that in this digital era on which we can be able to do jobs in the convenience or comfort of our own home. Not only that would be saving up yourself in daily commute and toxic workmates but also this one is that much more better paying than with your typical day job that we do know. Somewhat it is just that really hard to get in or being hired online because it requires that specific skills and when it comes competition then there's high competition or lets say that it is a bit that saturated nowadays but it doesnt mean that you cant be able to landed up a job online. It will be just that depending on how well you do make those applications and it would be also basing up with your skills too.
It doesnt matter on what kind of income source you are dealing into, the most important thing is that you do able to achieve on earning income.

For trading or doing business or investment then it will be having that different approach on how they would be executing out those actions but i do agree into some points above that everything is done for us to make profits or income on which its just that not much of a concern because we are all trying out our best to become profitable and this will be that our main priority. So it will be just that depending on you on how you would be executing it well into the career or venture that you would be trying out to deal on with. We are all hoping on the same target on which is to make money or profits.
